Roger Ramjet:For a reason unknown to me, this video will not play in Firefox or IE.
Jun 14, 2007 - 5:14 am Chuck Browning:The video plays fine for me and I use Firefox.
Might be one of your settings.
Jun 14, 2007 - 5:42 am Richard Puckett:Can’t play in IE!
Jun 14, 2007 - 6:30 am bostondrunk:brilliant job, bot roger simon and mark steyn. excellent.
Jun 14, 2007 - 6:47 am T J Sawyer:It plays fine on my Firefox but it turns out to be a “video.” This means that it rambles on with a pointless introduction, can’t be scanned over and skipped ahead. In other words, it is “unreadable”.
Jun 14, 2007 - 7:14 am Steve:Note to the cameraman- stop drinking or use a tripod.
Jun 14, 2007 - 7:35 am hdgreene:Roger–
For Firefox you might allow blip.tv on Scripts (click the “S” at the bottom of the browser if you have “no script” –it would be on the line with Forecast Fox weather and “adblock.” If you don’t have those ignore everything I said).
Jun 14, 2007 - 7:41 am Morton Doodslag:Very good discussion, but I’m disappointed to hear the venerable Mark Steyn suggest that poverty eradication within the Islamic world will somehow eliminate Jihadism.
This tired out formula is a pure cop-out.
If it isn’t clear by now that transfers of wealth to the Muslim world simply result in more Islam and more Jihad — then it will never be clear.
Saudi Arabia controls more wealth today than they ever have before. The same is true for Iran, Indonesia, etc.
The truth is this: Islam is a war doctrine. The practice of this so-called “religion” is very little different from engaging in sedition — as Islam in all its manifestations believes in supplanting governments with Islam — and replacing the laws of man with the laws of Allah and his heinous prophet.
Once we resolve that Islam is a war doctrine, and that the practice of Islam ultimately leads to the subversion of all non-Muslim societies — the world should act to outlaw it.
In the West we do not tolerate Nazi Bunds practicing freely on our soil. We do no permit racial supremacist Japanese to teach their children to hate and subvert our society. Why should we tolerate the practice of Islam with its entrenched hatreds of all things non-Muslim? Why should we endure one more day where Muslims are free in our dominions to teach their children to have contempt for we “infidels” — to teach their children that it’s O.K. to kill for Allah — to instruct their progeny to think of the West only as a battleground where Islam must triumph uber alles?
Outlaw Islam.
Prosecute Muslims who refuse to abandon the religion of sedition.
We would not face a grave existential threat if Muslims were not present in the West — Even with penetrations as low as 5%, Islam obviously poses such a deadly threat to our survival with its coterie of murderous villains. How much worse our degradation when the Muslim populations arrive at 10%? 20%?
I propose that with as little as 10%-20% of the population under the sway of Islam, a Western nation becomes completely unviable. While we still have the option to repudiate Islam we should do it. Mark Steyn is usually spot on, in my opinion. But when he suggests enriching the Islamic world to lower its entrenched poverty rates — he simply kicks the can down the street, and provides in his “solution” the seeds for perpetuating Islam and empowering it thereby.
Jun 14, 2007 - 7:55 am Cap'n Billy:I can view this video on the PJM Front Page, but the place where it is supposed to appear on this page is blank. I appreciate being able to view it and would like to place a link to it in a couple of other places on the web where some viewers may be able to benefit, but would prefer to have a permanent link instead of PJM since its shelf life on PJM may be limited. It would be helpful if this page could be repaired so that could be done.

By they way, for those with old versions of IE, you must download a flash player.
Jun 14, 2007 - 10:27 am Mark:Morton Doodslag - I am afraid that you are in fact correct that the problem with Islam is not Islamism but Islam itself. That’s not PC these days but the truth is the truth whether one wants to admit it or not. All one has to do is read parts of the Kuran and other texts of this ‘religion of peace’ (religion of [blown up body] pieces is more like it.)
I think Mark Steyn did address this point somewhat when he said that the reformation that we hope to see within Islam may already have occurred as the Saudi’s export their radical wahhibism throughout the world.
“Outlaw Islam.” - tough sell in these days and times; maybe after another 9/11 or two, but how many will have to die before we all wake up as a nation and face the facts of this radical religion? Far too many!!!
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Jun 14, 2007 - 1:02 pm kiwikit:The video will probably work if you disable your adblock. . . I’m on firefox and that’s what made it operable for me.
Every day in one way or another I’ve lost more and more faith in my country. The liberals have destroyed everything we believe in and I despise them for it.
Jun 14, 2007 - 2:03 pm Jack Miller:A fascinating interview with Mark Steyn. As much as anyone, he understand the problem of this growing radicalized Islamic wave. I don’t think his comments on the poverty in these countries should be taken too far… such as “all we need to do is eradicate poverty in Gaza or any of the Muslim countries and the problem of terror will go away.” He understands all too well the religious roots of this thing.
Steyn is having the conversation, through his book and articles, that should be going on in households and governments throughout the west. It is both scary and pathetic, in light of 9/11 and the escalation of jihadism worldwide, that the affluence of our society and the insipid cynicism of our culture has produced a response barely above apathy by most people to this growing threat.
I fear what it will take to wake the west up from this fog of thinking.

Jun 14, 2007 - 3:22 pm Bryan Leed:Thanks for the video of Mark Steyn! Though I’ve read his books and columns, and listened to him online, this is the first time I’ve ever seen him on video!
I was surprised by how much talk involved the journalism profession, in general. Very interesting.
Some other commentors are right that it would have made the video much better if a tripod had been used to keep the picture rock steady! The shakiness was distracting, but it was still worth watching.
Thanks!
Jun 14, 2007 - 4:39 pm venividivici:Jack,
Didn’t listen to the interview, but just wanted to throw my two cents in on your comment. I think one of the reasons we, in general, haven’t risen beyond the level apathy is precisely because Islamic terrorism hasn’t cost our society that much, in monetary terms.
Once it does (I read an estimate that a nuclear device set off in an American city could cost upwards of $1 trillion in damages over time), we will lay a hurting on Muslims that will make all their literary imaginings of Hell in their POS holy book look like an Amish barn-raising.
Then, when the fighting is done, we’ll go back to our regularly scheduled programming.
That is, unless the Muslims are smarter than I think they are and just outbreed us over time, which could end up being the bigger problem. But, since Muslims don’t seem to be able to refrain from violence and are collectively dumber than a box of rocks, I don’t think that will happen.
Jun 14, 2007 - 4:45 pm blogengeezer:Morton Doodslag, Jack miller and especially Mark have really got the ‘Inside Rail’ on this track. The Final Battle described in ‘THE BOOK’ that I read, says that when the smoke clears “All the World will know Who is King”. Until that time, I plan to enjoy life in this Miracle, the USA. Make sure your faith is in the “Correct Power”. Have a ‘Personal Relationship’ with “The Son” it sure takes a load of dispair off your mind.

Dear Morton Doodslag, Cap’n Billy,
venividivici, jack Miller & Mark or anyone, lets correspond! Great to actually see the Old Steyner. A real favourite writer, columnist, humourist along with P.J O’Rourke, Michelle Malkin, Groucho Marx, mark Twain, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore.
Great stuff, especially about the generally mediocre level of broadsheets & realted media. He mentioned Australian papers, but apart from ‘The Australian’, they seem nearly all pretty lame soft left default bore crap. I live in Melbourne. Use colonelrobertneville@blogspot.com
Jun 15, 2007 - 4:54 am Charles Maxwell:Morton Doodslag is spot on. One of threads that runs through most of these comments is, “when will the public wake up?” The unfortunate truth is that the answer is directly related to the proximity of terror induced pain! Think of it this way, cars on the I-5 in LA drive 70 mph through the morning fog despite the 100 car pile up that occurred the day before! So, why are people still driving at 100 mph? Because the people affected are in the hospital or dead! In other words, it’s not my tragedy, it’s some other bastard’s tragedy. Or, when my neighbor’s out of work it’s a reccession. When I’m out of work it’s a depression! Unless you are 1 of 3000 killed or family to the 3000 killed on 9-11, the problem is not close enough in memory or pain. “Did you see that plane hit the tower? Yeah, man. Sucks. Those bastards! Can I have spinkles on my cone please. Thanks. I got to go or I’ll be late for my haircut.” You get the picture. Max
Jun 15, 2007 - 7:54 am Winston:very well done!
Jun 15, 2007 - 3:03 pm Brian H:And that, Charles, is why soldiers get depressed and long to go back to war after they return: the public is so fathappyselfabsorbedignorantshortsighted
Jun 16, 2007 - 5:58 amand generally a waste of air that they can’t believe that’s who they were actually fighting to protect. Yeah, man; Sucks!
