YearlyKos 2007: “The New Center”
Support Pajamas Media; Visit Our Advertisers
PJM’s Andrew Marcus wraps up his coverage of the 2007 YearlyKos Convention with this in-depth report on the self-described “new center” not only of the Democratic party, but, according to Markos Moulitsas Z√∫niga, the national electorate. Eager to spend their newfound influence, the attendees talk about the myriad changes they want to see in American politics, from the impeachment of President Bush before his term is over, to a change in US support for Israel. Andrew also gets Markos’ response to Sgt. David Aguina’s confrontation with Vote Vets‘ Jon Soltz.

Uncle Jimbo:Kos thinks he and the rest of the hater left represent the center of not just the Dems but the electorate?
Heh!
Cordially,
Uncle J
Aug 6, 2007 - 9:12 pm Jason:Kos is desperately trying to portray himself and his mindless followers as centrist because he knows moderate voters are needed to win elections. People aren’t going to be fooled by this, however. Whatever Kos wants to call it, people will still see that they are the far, far left.
Aug 7, 2007 - 7:01 am Joseph Buzz:If he and his crew are the center, I am way further to the right than I thought I was…..
Aug 7, 2007 - 10:07 am Robert:Personally, I like listening to the nutcases. They remind me of why I would never ever ever ever ever ever vote democrat.
I especially like when the reporter asks certain of the nutcases to cite specific incidents of fox news being bias or how their civil rights were infringed, etc. and they just stand there dumbfounded… duh! Yah.. they are sooooooooooooooooo well informed. More like brainwashed.
Aug 7, 2007 - 12:00 pm Derek:I had a 136 IQ.
I just lost SIX points for watching this.
I’m outraged!
Aug 7, 2007 - 2:02 pm gcblues:if those hippies are the center the usa is lost. glad i left. i have a home in rivas nicaragua, and a little farm in costa rica. even under daniel our taxes there are lower in communist nicaragua than the usa. these hippies are insane. not a one of them has ever succeeded in the private sector. corporate fascism.lolololol. they are all utterly unable. like wow man, peace and like impeach the dctator bush, and like solar man. yeah, and recycle too dude. you know.
Aug 7, 2007 - 2:17 pm Ray:These people are so far gone from reality its not even funny. That couple that was complaining about “lost civil liberties” couldnt name one thing that has been taken away, and that hag that cares more about the murders detain in gitmo couldnt admit we are facing a threat as bad or worse then Nazism. Pack em up, send em all to the moon. Bunch a nut burgers.
Aug 7, 2007 - 7:28 pm BMOON:I could agree that Koskiddies, PoHuffers and ilk are the center of the Dem Party -the dead bulls-eye center of south end of this north-bound donkey.
Aug 7, 2007 - 10:55 pm just4kicks:Has it passed everyones attention that the same Wesley Clark that sits on that stage has been seen in Uniform while running for Pres.? That was a rep until he became a dem. Clinton I believe fired Wes, because he was told to remove the nut because he would not listen. As a matter of fact he created a lot of problems at NATO and made the affair much worse with his belligerent attitude.
Aug 9, 2007 - 4:40 am Vyan:Also, we don’t need to poof off these people, look what they managed with Joe, one of their own. Did you not listen to some, they don’t even have Television and just blog so they go with what these people say not realizing that the info you get from a site is only as good, as the people putting it in. What is it people don’t read books or any-other things they just depend on hate sites. We shouldn’t listen totally to the news either watch and record.
Overall the report was reasonably fair - and mildly better than I would have expected.
But it wasn’t perfect.
First of all, I find it “amazing” that you consistently found people who expoused positions who didn’t have any first hand knowledge on those positions. It’s a bit like how reporters always seem to find the one person who didn’t see the accident - “what happened?”
The one person who didn’t like Fox - but has seen Brave New Films work documenting the networks partisan agenda - didn’t know that Roger Ailes was a former staffer for Karl Rove under G.W.H. Bush and is now major player in the Giuliani Campaign - while simultaniously running Fox News?
And he didn’t remember the Chris Wallace ambush of Bill Clinton over the U.S.S. Cole - an attack whose perpetrators weren’t verified until after he’d left the Presidency? Funny that when Clinton did attack following the East Africa bombings when he did have some verified intelligence - he was accused of “wagging the dog” but did it anyway. As President you really should take the shot no matter what if you have reasonbly good data just as Barack has stated and Bush has himself has already TRIED (via Predator Drone) in Pakistan.
Why hasn’t Wallace ever asked Condoleeza Rice or Dick Cheney the same question “Why didn’t you do something about the Cole and Bin-Laden when you had the chance?” - even though he’s received 20,000 email requests to do so?
Have our Civil Rights been violated? Of course they have. Habeaus Corpus has been (at least partially) revoked. Domestic Spying without a Warrant is now rampant has been repeatedly abused. Torture, Use of coersed (sic) Testimony and Kidnapping are now part of U.S. Policy. We have literally become a rogue nation, ruled by fear and paranoia - not reason or the rule of law.
The real question is has any of that made us safer? And judging by the resurgence of Al Qaeda in Pakistan, while Musharraf establishes a Peace Treaty with the Taliban, while they announce a Merger with Al Qeada - I think not.
If you guys really want to “defeat terrorism”, never mind Iraq, why do you let Bush have a pass on that?
But here’s the money quote that you guys should really pay attention to and take to heart.
The above was stated by Sgt Aguina the fervent surge supportor about the people you are currently vilifying at Kos. Try putting your own anger and finger pointing aside sometime and think about that.
Vyan
P.S. One of the people you interviewed (but apparently didn’t recognize) was Sam Seder of Air America and Kos was absolute correct about the New Center.
Aug 9, 2007 - 9:53 am Buzz:Yeah, real impressive Vyan. Be even more impressive if you bothered to link to any reputable source for all your allegations. The first two I am assuming was your own blog but gave me a 404 page. The second was a blog that used Glenn Greenwald (hehehe) as a voice of authority. In other words, you seem to be the same as the people interviewed. All sorts of issues, but with nothing to back them up.
Aug 12, 2007 - 12:51 am syn:Over the last several years Kos’s kiddies have posted countless anti-Semite, anti-Isreal, anti-Christian, anti-American, pro-Islamic terrorism that Kos himself had to tell his kids to zip the hate. Then comes along triangulating Hillary, the candidate many Americans are convinced represents the center, speaking before the Kos kiddies so now Kos declares his group as The Mainstream Center.
I don’t believe United for Peace and Justice, Code Pink, ANSWER and various other progressive organizations will let Hillary and her gang of Kos kiddies Moveon.org from their own efforts to achieve power.
Kos may have dumped Cindy Sheehan for a more powerful icon but this doesn’t mean the progressives on the Left will abide by his decision.
If people think the divide between Red/Blue is bad just wait until the the divide between Progressive Left and the Progressive Left comes to fruition. Huffington’s Hounds are going to have a hard time deciding which side of the Left they’re on.
In war there is no love between the Progressive Left.
