I just threw up. My wife and I love our cats: Xao Pi and Speedy. Xao Pi has prehensile thumbs and means “little white one” in Chinese. Boycott the Olympics!!!!

Rabies is a small price to pay for supporting these games and this monumentally corrupt and repulsive government. Man’s inhumanity to his fellow man, however horrible, is something that we inflict on ourselves. From that perspective, we deserve our suffering, but this kind of casual cruelty towards innocent creatures makes me question the moral justification for the existence of the human race.

Wow. The Chinese government does bad things, so let’s hope people who travel to the Olympics get rabies. Or even better, let’s question the “moral justification for the existence of the human race.” These commenters just aren’t getting the concept. Here it is, in simple words:

The people who run China are bad. They are evil. We are not. The killing of cats referred to is not something done by “the human race” but something done by servants of the Chinese thug regime. If you want to stop it, keep your focus on the people doing it.

The killing of cats is not something done by people who will travel to the Olympics, many of whom will not have heard about it, many of whom know from their own experience buying things at local stores that we trade with China everday, that China send us its basketball stars and acrobats and films. All of that is supposed to be OK but going to China to see an international athletic festival, which one could hope might improve friendship between nations, is a moral crime?

I hasten to add that I will not go to Beijing nor watch even one minute of the Olympics, for the reasons Mr. Rosenbaum suggests. I agree completely with him on this. Indeed, I do my best to avoid buying things made in China, for this reason. But let’s not be barbarians in return, let’s not hope that people who do go to Beijing die horrible, painful deaths. Or, worse, indulge in casual moral posturing that impugns the entire human race. Keep the focus where it should be: on the thugs who run China.

The first mistake is thinking that the Olympics are a good thing. The IOC is a disgusting crew of money-grubbing whores that regularly bankrupt countries before making off with their swag while hoodwinking everybody with the faux purity of sports. Anybody with a conscience should ignore and reject them.

After all the Chinese human rights atrocities, we still didn’t boycott their Olympics. This “cat cleansing” doesn’t make it any better.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the left wing and progressive libs to condem this kind of thing. That might make them look bad and we can’t have that now can we. Stinking Communists and thier lib supporters.

Um, I consider myself a liberal, which, to me, means opposition to tyranny and cruelty whether it come in communist, fascist or theocratic forms, so I’d say it’s an issue we can all unite on.

It’s possible to oppose both. Which is why I admire your outspoken oposition to the gassing of the Kurds and the murder of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi innocents under Saddam. Increased cases of Hanta virus would certainly be a concern but why not ask the Europeans if they have any experience with the widespread slaughter of cats?

The War on Cats

This is why im not going to the olympics or watching them on tv,this country is inhumane towards all animals and they allow people to do wrong and animals pay with there lifes,how disgraceful humans are.

Okay, Ron, but what can we DO about this? How do we protest the “cleansing” of all cats?

It’s not just the cats. It’s the human dissidents tortured and murdered too. Write, e mail major corportations that are prospective advertisers on the Olympic broadcast, the network too. Demand they justify subsidizing propaganda that enables such policies. Tell them you’ll boycott their products if they do.

I am absolutely sickened by waht China is doing. Is there any way we can help save these cats and are there any organisations to which I could contribute?

As one reader said, amna’s inhumanity to man is bad enough - but at least we have a VOICE. The poor animals to which humans are indescribably cruel have no voice and WE must be their voice.

There is one thing that harrasses me in first place, wherever a country wants to get acknowledged it has to show a clean record in human rights.
Here no one cares. In Germany the print media even put it the way “China does NOT need Germany, but Germany needs China”.
